About
I'm developing my thesis on Alternative Education on Vancouver Island. I am guided by Reclaiming Youth's Brokenleg, Brentro & Van Bockern's Circle of Courage, Robert Greenleaf's Servant Leadership philosophy as well as Mary Ann Raywid's seminal work in the field of alternative education. I am contextualizing the Vancouver Island alternative education experience within the current North American literature. I have interviewed students, teachers and administrators thus far. I am analysing their views regarding 21st Century "personalized learning", BC's current educational policy. I am examining the connections between the Servant Leadership philosophy and Aboriginal ways of knowing and learning, as illustrated by the practice of the Circle of Courage within alternative educational settings.
